Coach Kimmer Songer

This is my 32nd year coaching and organizing aquatics. I have worked at the YMCA KC Parks and Rec and now the Boys and Girls Club. Having got my first aquatics certification at the age of 15 and worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor at a summer camp. I continued to work at the summer camp until I graduated college. My last year at the summer camp I was the waterfront director. This included canoeing sailing and swimming.

This year begins my 6th working with the Boys and Girls Club. I brought my aquatic experience here tot he clubs and began to learn a new perspective in aquatics.  My goal now is to make sure each and every kid that gets into the water anywhere has enough skill to get them out when in trouble or help someone else who may need help in the water.

My time here at the club has made me realize you don't need the best of equipment or pool just a love for kids the water and an understanding the swimming just isn't a sport or fun activity it's a life skill. When working with the kids and I see them over come their fears in the water my heart smiles bigger and yes, tears fall out of my eyes because I know I made a difference and they beat the odds because I was here!!!
